Work Opportunities

Page Section

We understand that studying abroad is expensive. You may want to work part-time while you study to supplement your lifestyle, giving you a little extra to spend and enjoy.

Working Hours

On a UK student visa, you can work up to 20 hours per week during term-time; this cap ensures your job doesn’t detract from your studies. During your course’s official vacation periods, you can work full-time, which typically means up to 40 hours per week.

On-Campus Jobs

Keele has a vast campus, with numerous restaurants, cafés, shops, and a hotel. There are also over 60 businesses based on the Keele campus. Any of these employers might hire part-time workers, and these options would be right on your doorstep, making it easy to fit shifts around your classes.

Local Opportunities

Beyond the campus, the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme (approximately 10 minutes from campus by bus) is also home to shops, supermarkets and restaurants, as is the city of Stoke-on-Trent (just a 15-minute bus ride away). You will find vacancies in both locations throughout the year and during holiday season.

Volunteering

If you prioritise work experience over salary, you could consider volunteering. KeeleSU Volunteering offers many opportunities on and off campus. Not only will you be making a difference, you will also be boosting your CV and enhancing your employability for when you do look for paid work.

Becoming a TAP Ambassador

If you’d like to support KUIC’s recruitment team, you could consider becoming a TAP Ambassador. Duties include answering questions from prospective students and capturing content that showcases life on campus. At just 1-2 hours per week, this is an easy role to fit around your studies and will look great on your CV. Email info@kuic.keele.ac.uk for more information.

Finding Work

Whatever form of employment you seek, Keele’s Careers and Employability service can support you. The team can help you find part-time, term-time and vacation work.
